Students hear lessons from tech professionals

Business Information Systems students Sean Elijah Chavez and Sushila Dhakal attended the Auckland Council Migrants in Tech event recently, gaining valuable insights from experienced professionals in the tech industry.

Sean says speakers at the event highlighted that your idea may have the power to solve problems for an entire community, but the journey is rarely smooth, and mistakes are part of the process. Moving countries already proves your courage, and that same boldness should carry into your career by saying yes to opportunities as they come.

He says the event also emphasised the human side of tech, reminding attendees that building real connections and a strong network matters just as much as technical skill.

“Trust was named the most valuable asset we hold, as it is something AI simply cannot replicate. Staying curious, continuing to learn, and leaning into transferable skills were recurring themes that rounded out an inspiring evening.”

He said students left feeling motivated to take bold steps in their careers.
