Building confidence in Kiwi workplace culture
Understanding workplace culture is key to student success in Aotearoa New Zealand, and a recent workshop at AIC brought that learning to life.
As part of our Placement Ready Programme (Milestone 5: Workplace Culture & Professional Communication – Industry Connect), we were pleased to host Pratishtha Purohit, Founder of Eduventurenz, for an engaging session on Decoding Kiwi Communication last Thursday.
The workshop focused on the often-unspoken aspects of professional life—communication styles, workplace expectations, and the cultural nuances that shape everyday interactions. Many students shared that they had previously felt uncertain in professional settings, unsure how to interpret behaviours or respond appropriately.
Through an interactive and reflective approach, students explored how their own cultural perspectives influence the way they communicate and interpret others. Grounded in the Te Whare Tapa Whā framework, the session encouraged a holistic view of wellbeing and belonging—prompting students to reflect on identity, connection, and how to navigate new environments while staying true to themselves.
It was encouraging to see students actively participating, asking thoughtful questions, and sharing personal insights. In just one session, many reported a shift in how they understand workplace communication and their place within it.
